Healthy Highways in Lincolnshire

1 December 2025

Recently Warren Peppard, Head of Development Management, presented at a UDL’s (Urban Design Learning) Designing for Health event. He explains how the DM team are reshaping highways and flood risk management to put people and places first. Rather than focusing solely on road capacity, the approach prioritises safe, inclusive, and well-designed environments that support health and quality of life for all, including children and vulnerable residents.

Warren describes how integrating highways, drainage, and placemaking under the council’s Growth agenda has enabled solutions that reduce long-term maintenance burdens on communities while creating attractive, resilient spaces. Moving away from rigid design standards, the team champions creative, evidence-based designs that incorporate trees, sustainable drainage, and shared spaces; delivering developments that are easier to maintain and safer for everyone.

Watch the video to see how Lincolnshire is leading the way in creating connected, sustainable communities through collaboration, early engagement, and a commitment to reducing future costs for residents.
